ONE CHURCH Seder Meal
Gather with us for a meaningful evening as we reflect on the Passover story and the way it points us to Christ.
Whether you plan to join us in person for the shared meal or gather at home with your family or Connect Group, please register using the link below.
Registering will allow us to prepare for those attending in person and make sure at home participants receive the instructions they need for the livestream experience.
Hosting the Seder at Home
If you will be participating from home, we want to help you prepare for a meaningful and smooth evening. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to be present around the table as the Seder meal unfolds and to thoughtfully walk through each element together.
It is recommended to have the Seder elements prepared and on the table by 6:00 PM, with the main meal served after the Seder elements are completed, which usually takes about 30 minutes.
You can follow along with the livestream from the Calvary Campus at 6:00PM through YouTube or Facebook.
Use the button below to print the “At Home Instructions” PDF, or continue on this page for guided steps to prepare and enjoy a Seder meal together.
At Home Quick Start
Before the evening begins, prepare your table with:
- A main kosher meal your family will enjoy
- A Seder plate with the traditional elements
- Matzah
- Grape juice
- Two candles
- Water and juice glasses at each place setting
- A bowl of saltwater
- A warm, inviting table setting
Fun Tip for the Kids!
Before the meal, hide three pieces of matzah wrapped in a cloth napkin somewhere in the living room. Later in the evening, send the kids on a hunt to find them.
Food and Beverage
Main Meal
The main menu can consist of anything your family loves, as long as it is kosher. Most grocery stores have a kosher section where you can find what you need. One Church’s in person meal includes lamb or beef, roasted vegetables, garden salad, dessert fruit cup, and grape juice.
Grape Juice
Each participant will drink four cups of grape juice during the Seder. Plan for about three ounces per person, four times during the meal.
Build the Seder Plate
The Seder plate contains the symbolic elements used throughout the meal.
- Vegetable / Karpas: Parsley or another green vegetable
- Bitter Herbs / Maror: Red or white horseradish
- Egg / Beitzah: Roasted hard boiled egg
- Shank Bone / Zeroa: Lamb or roasted chicken leg bone, with roasted beet as a vegetarian option
- Bitter Root / Chazeret: Lettuce or onion
- Charoset: A mixture of nuts, fruit, and spices
Setting the Table
Set your table in a way that is ready for the evening and allows each element to be easily accessed.
- Covered plate with three pieces of matzah
- Two candles
- Two glasses at each place setting (water and grape juice)
- Bowl of saltwater
- Tableware, tablecloth, and napkins
- Extra glass and plate for Elijah
For Children
Children can be a meaningful part of the evening.
Before the meal, hide three pieces of matzah wrapped in a cloth napkin somewhere in the living room.
Later in the evening, children will be sent to find it.
After the candles are lit, children may ask the four questions:
- On all other nights we eat either leavened bread or unleavened bread. On this night, why only unleavened bread?
- On all other nights we eat herbs of any kind. On this night, why only bitter herbs?
- On all other nights we do not dip our herbs even once. On this night, why do we dip them twice?
- On all other nights we eat meals in any manner. On this night, why do we sit around the table in a reclining position?
During the Seder
As you follow along, you will be guided through each part of the meal and told when to eat and when to move forward.
If needed, the livestream video may be paused at any time while participating from home.
